Beloit man sentenced to probation for unlawful possession of firearm

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 19, 2012

Madison, Wis. - John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that John Norman III, 41, Beloit, Wis., was sentenced yesterday by U.S. District Judge William M. Conley to three years of probation for unlawful possession of a firearm after a domestic violence conviction. Norman pleaded guilty to this charge on July 20, 2012.

On July 5, 2011, Beloit police officers were called to a domestic disturbance at the Norman’s home. He was arrested for battery, disorderly conduct, and obstructing an officer. Further, law enforcement officers found three firearms in the defendant’s home. Because the defendant has multiple domestic violence convictions he was prohibited from possessing a firearm.

The charges against Norman were the result of an investigation conducted by the Beloit Police Department and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney David J. Reinhard.
